CHILDREN AND FIREWORKS

Children are the most frequent age group involved in fireworks-related injuries underscoring the need for close adult supervision of all fireworks activities as well as the need for safety education campaigns. Data collected by the CPSC indicate the extent to which various age groups incur product-related injuries in numerous categories.

Children playing with fire caused 1,930 fires in Texas in 1997. Only 11 percent of the fires were caused by fireworks.
